+ HQ Hostel

An impossible dream for the discerning traveller becomes a reality - budget accommodation and design come together in bustling Bangkok.

In the past, the word ‘hostel’ and the thought of travelling on a budget in Bangkok conjured images of flea-ridden mattresses and sweaty dormitories.

HQ Hostel offers a new boutique accommodation. With all the standard elements in place – handy location, 24/7 check-in and check-out, free internet and breakfast – the emphasis on design is a standout feature.

The architects set out to create a unique experience for travellers, within the context of a commercial building that maintains the harmony of the street façade.

In essence, the hostel operates as a large, temporary home, with both public and private spaces and all the considerations for the complex social dynamics that shared living requires. Great attention was paid to the planning of space and circulation, the building’s drilled aluminium composite façade creating privacy during the day and moving beams of light at night.

Rather than try to deny or disguise the fact that hostel design must consider space efficiency, HQ celebrates this as a positive aspect, with the internal planning and colour palette inspired by the traditional Japanese Ryokan.

The interior finishes are simple and feature robust materials honestly exposed, such as cement, brick and steel, which are combined with thoughtful details such as quality cotton bed sheets and pillows, to create a more valuable experience for the discerning traveller on a budget.

A range of dormitories and double rooms are available, all with different design elements, to accommodate for design hunters of all budgets.

Congratualtions and what a fantastic idea. Accommodation should be about comfort and cleanness which is what HQ Hostel is obviously offering. The Ryokan interiors are cool and with its simplicity becomes classy and stylish. Will try out next in Bangkok

I stayed here in February this year, and boy was I blown away by the bang delivered for the buck!! This is quality design methodology produced eloquently and provided at bargain prices in a prime location. You get the bustle of Patpong at your doorstep, shopping district and cultural site accessibility, and low cost/opulent range of food options minutes away from your Silom base. The interior of HQ is cool (literally and aesthetically), functional and has all the amenities that make it hard to leave but for the furious city waiting to be explored outside. Highly recommended, it's like a design hotel, but priced like a hostel!! P.S. Do a Thai cooking course while you're there, great fun and informative too!!

I was blown away by the level of quality here when i stayed last year. Everything about both venues was amazing - service, cleanliness, location, spaciousness, great common areas and free breakfast.
I've raved and recommended it to anyone going there.

WOW. I have stayed in a lot of hostels whilst backpacking for 18 months but that would have to be the most amazing one i have seen. What a shame i didn't get a chance to stay there. Might have to consider traveling again if that the quality of hostels these days. I had my fair share of bed bugs and grotty rooms.
