Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Anish Kapoor for BVLGARI

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the B.zero1
ring, Bulgari invites sculptor Anish Kapoor to re-interpret this iconic
creation.

B is for Bulgari. zero1 is
where it all started.

Now as a new decade begins,
the B.zero1 ring is reborn in a contemporary new form created in collaboration
with legendary sculptor Anish Kapoor.

‘I think there has always
been a cross-over between art and fashion basically because both are interested
in creativity.’

Anish Kapoor investigates
the manipulation of reflective metals in his work, "I’m interested in things that
are not what they first seem to be," he explains, "Reflective surfaces engage
people directly, fusing object, viewer and environment into one physical,
constantly fluctuating form."

His grand public sculptures
can be seen in the world’s most notable locations such as the Sky Mirror at Rockefeller Centre in New
York, and the Cloud Gate at
Millennium Park in Chicago.

Kapoor, in a first for
Bulgari, brings his signature style of curved reflective metals to the
intricate scale of jewellery with this ring made from pink gold and steel,
turning "a very beautiful, classic design on its head and making something
visually new and intriguing".

Launched at the turn of the
new millennium, the B.zero1 ring’s spiral design, derived from the iconic
Tubogas Serpent watch from Bulgari’s collection in the 70s, metaphorically
represents cyclical transition of time, from beginning to end and back again.
Combined with the double ‘BVLGARI’ logo, the ring has become a momentous piece
for Bulgari, selling more than a million pieces since 2000.

B.zero1 ring by Anish Kapoorretails for AUD$1,250.
