Living in the Environment Issue

Issue 62 is the first issue of the year and always a great time to put our best foot forward. With Adam Goodrum, the loveliest man in design, as Guest Editor, we draw on his insights as a furniture designer, artist and educator to look at the makers shaping our design world. Sustainability has never been more important, and increasingly this is a consideration from the start with projects designed to address their immediate environment as well as the longevity of the planet. From the coldest winters to the most tropical of summers, addressing how we live in the environment is crucial to creating the perfect home.

A Bold new wall clock from Scandinavia

Normann Copenhagen presents Bold, a new graphic wall clock inspired by the design flourishes of typography.

Designed by the Swedish designer Jonas Wagell, Bold is a contemporary clock that channels the simple and unobtrusive design of modern typography. In the same way that a font can be made bold to stand out and attract the viewer, so too does the Bold clock draw the eye of the passer by. The face and hands of the clock have a plump, rounded shape that softens up the minimalistic and industrial design of the clock.

The clock distinguishes itself through a characterful yet relaxed expression. A background in graphic design served the designer well in the clock’s presentation that builds on clean lines and a trimming of the fat to an absolute essence.

“My ambition is to create plain and honest products that have warmth and character. Bold is a good example of this,” says Jonas Wagell “I have boiled down the details in the design in order to create an iconographic product. All superfluous details are removed, but the clock still has an impactful, personal and humorous expression.”

The wall clock comes in three versions: white with black hands, grey with both hands in shades of grey and fresh petroleum, with hands in pink and green.
