When Australian food and lifestyle photographer Rob Palmer married his French/Moroccan born wife Sophia, they both wanted to share their experience of her homeland Morocco – a colourful, vibrant and unexpected land and encourage others to explore it.
Rob and Sophia not only married in Morocco but decided to travel the country guided by Sophia’s family and friends using food as the vehicle to meet people, share stories and explore new places. They began their journey in Marrakech and cooked in modern cities, ancient medinas and in the remote villages that are sprinkled along the barren deserts, the endless coastlines and in the towering mountains of Morocco.
As Sophia says ‘Cooking and sharing meals together is such an important part of Moroccan culture. Food is the gateway into the lives and homes of people, but no self-respecting Moroccan cook will ever admit to following a recipe.’ Sophia set about writing up authentic and modern Moroccan recipes with the home cook in mind while Rob photographed the landscape and their experiences, capturing the very essence of the country.
Colour of Maroc is on sale from October 25, 2013
