Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

CUSTOM LIGHTING

This month Custom Lighting add elegant suspension lights to their collection with the Tara Suspension designed by Akuta studio.

Name: Tara Suspension

Designed by: Akuta Studio

I am: A Suspension Lighting feature

About me: Clean lines simplify this 3 or 6 piece suspension light, that is softened by the fluid forms each diffuser is moulded to. The three organic figures complement each other, yet demand their own
attention in a sophisticated cluster. The light comes with a choice of colours. There are mirrored
copper coloured glasses diffusers or transparent, silver coloured glass diffusers. Each suspension is
adjustable in height making the desired formation flexible in an
interior space. Clear flex support and power leads hold the sculptural glass
in place, and encourage the light to appear as if it is floating in space.

Materials:

– Aluminium

– Clear suspension

– Borosilicate* blown glass

*Borosilicate glass is a very
specialised variety of strong glass that has a different composition
from normal "soft" glass. Borosilicate glass is made with boron oxide
particles taking the place of the usual soda and lime particles found in
"soft" glass. It is often used where endurance matters, such as in
scientific glassware including beakers and test tubes.

The boron oxide serves as a type of glue to hold the silicate
particles together with aluminum oxide and sodium oxide. Because the
boron oxide particles are so small, the silicate is held together more
closely resulting in a much stronger glass.

Cable Dimensions:
3 light = Dia: 30cm H: 200cm
6 Light = Dia: 40cm H: 200cm
