Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Design by District: The Alex at Sydney Indesign 2017

Surrounded by this city’s most intense industrial developments, and engirt by juggernaut local and international design brands, The Alex was a small oasis of innovation and cutting-edge design thinking.

This district celebrated the power of technology and innovation to assist us all in the pursuit of a better, more intelligent, thoughtful way of living in design. Getting up close and personal with the latest technological innovations in sintered surface technology with CDK Stone, sitting down with the team from EcoSmartfire to learn about how we can achieve clean-burning fire, The Alex was a portal to high-tech R+D, smart design and the intelligence that lies behind some of our most familiar household names.

Coupled with the expert industrial edginess of Savage Design’s distinctive hardware and the breathtaking beauty of thinkdzine’s kitchen and bathroom design solutions, The Alex showcased the future potential of A+D in all its glory.

Unmissable however, was Flowwave, an installation by artist and designer Christina Waterson as a part of The Project.

Marking the entrance to exhibitors at The Alex, the installation was an exploration of flow patterns found in the world around us that continue to inspire art, design, architecture and cognitive patterns that CLICK with creative solutions. Flowwave’s flow pattern was crafted specificly to The Alex’s unique scale and structure. Through its distinctive layering, materiality and directional colour Flowwave created a soft moment in the hustle and bustle of #SID17.”
