With Guest Editor Sarah-Jane Pyke of Arent&Pyke leading us through Kitchens & Bathrooms there is absolute perfection at hand. Indeed, as the first in our highly collectable Guest Editor issues, Sarah-Jane has set the bar high with ideas and insights shaping every aspect of Habitus #60. Amazing doesn’t even to begin her capacity to share and nurture our aspirations, with unparalleled discernment across all aspects of design.
As the Kitchen & Bathroom issue, Habitus 60 looks at the very best in Kitchen & Bathroom design, but through Sarah-Jane’s eyes, we are invited into a world of layers and crafted detailing (76). The heart and soul of any home, the kitchen is increasingly where a family comes together for far more than just a meal (113). As such, Kitchens from Studio Prineas, Birdblack Studio and Sally Caroline come under our gaze. Likewise, for Bathrooms, Nicky Lobo shares her thought on bathrooms that inspire peace (88), plus extraordinary bathrooms from extraordinary designers (97), we look at the work of Mim Design, and Birdblack studio for surprising and inspiring inner sanctums.
The creative minds shaping our worlds are legion, and in this issue, we speak to architect Luke Moloney (48); the new CEO of the Australian Tapestry Workshop, Sophie Travers; and the experimental and prodigiously talented lighting designer Christopher Boots (64).
The projects are astounding with Sarah-Jane selecting work from some of the best designers working in the residential and hospitality space. The eighties for example, has never looked so good with Greg Natale’s MacMasters Beach House a glorious tribute to arches, terrazzo and exemplar furnishings (184). In Melbourne, Elwood House by Kennedy Nolan is a breath of fresh air (178). SJB is always impressive and Finch House is a triumph of restoration and living design (144). MG House in Adelaide is simply divine with a new take on multi-generational living (154). Techne’s Inner City Terrace works magic with their clients’ expansive art collection(162). Little More House from MEGArchitects and Sawsee is everything we love in barn shaped volumes in radial cut timber (170).
As a special treat we invited David Clark to review the latest project from Arent&Pyke, Sydney Cove House (134). As always David’s writing is insightful, to the point and quietly brilliant. The perfect match for any Arent&Pyke Project. We also focused on Arent&Pyke’s Bay House from a purely Kitchen & Bathroom perspective (198).
Not forgetting hospitality, Lo Scoglio is making waves as the celebrity go-to retreat in the hinterland of Byron Bay. Reclaimed, recycled and easy on the eye (192).
Naturally, Lightbox is filled with treats and ideas for shaping your home (30). To find out more about the magazine tap here.
Sit back, relax and dream big!
