Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Serving up customised design and cocktails

Drawing inspiration from the incredible homes in the 2023 Habitus House of the Year line-up – we recently hosted a cocktail event focusing on tailored interior design, in partnership with Kaolin Tiles.

In a celebration of the design excellence and innovation that makes Habitus House of the Year so unique, this year’s programs of events centred around three different events – each crafted in collaboration with our Major Partners.

Kicking off a week of festivities was a highly curated evening in partnership with Kaolin Tiles, where creativity and bespoke craftsmanship were the focus.

Taking place inside Kaolin Tiles’ showroom in Alexandria, guests were treated to an array of food on a large grazing table, before settling in to listen to a panel talk.

Habitus editor Aleesha Callahan led the discussion on the art of customisation in design, alongside design superstars – Rachel Luchetti of Luchetti Krelle and Alexandra Kidd of Alexandra Kidd Interior Design.

Both design luminaries shared profound insights into the intricacies of the design process, offering the audience a glimpse into their creative minds. The panellists not only spoke eloquently about their respective journeys in the industry but also regaled the crowd with anecdotes that shed light on the collaborative and often daring nature of their work. From insider information to the challenges and triumphs they’ve faced, Luchetti and Kidd emphasised the importance of embracing bold design choices and pushing the boundaries of conventional aesthetics.

The backdrop to the discussion added fuel to the conversation, with Kaolin unveiling its latest offering, a groundbreaking range of porcelain tiles that redefine the concept of customisation. The new collection allows designers and homeowners to fully personalise their spaces with tiles that are not just functional but also a true reflection of individual style and taste.

Perhaps one of the most memorable elements of the evening was the exceptional cocktails, created by Mr. Wednesday, renowned as one of Australia’s top bartenders at the recently appointed #1 Bar, Maybe Sammy.

Mr. Wednesday’s creations were a symphony of flavours fusing tea to complement the artistic atmosphere of the event.
