Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

A curated list of objects for the homemaker

Over the course of the year, we have worked in tandem with design contributors, slowly but surely pulling together our list of the best objects for the homemaker. From leather-lined bar carts to Puglian ceramics influenced by old-world trattorias, here are a few of our favourites.

Riviera daybed outdoor collection by Mambo

Mambo’s inaugural outdoor collection, Riviera, is an homage to the art of outdoor living. Handcrafted in Portugal, the collection transcends convention, integrating an eclectic palette of marble, Merrazzo, resilient metals and ceramics. Each piece is a fusion of style and durability, designed to elevate the outdoor experience — whether in the form of discerning dining or tranquil repose.

Pranzo ceramic by ALEX and TRAHANAS

Pranzo by ALEX AND TRAHANAS is an ode to Italian tradition, crafted to elevate gatherings with the elegance of Puglian ceramics. Hand-painted in hues of vino rosso, green and cream, each piece captures the charm of old-world trattorias. Photographed at the beloved 10 William, where the brand’s story began, Pranzo celebrates the beauty of shared tables, warm company and flavours that linger.

Jardan Inez Dining Table

Inez is a refined exploration of form and function. Its distinctive pedestal base and central dowel create an impression of two halves converging, complemented by soft groove detailing along the timber top. Available in both rectangular and circular shapes, with options in solid timber, natural stone and the newly introduced American walnut, Inez serves as a versatile addition to any dining or meeting space. Crafted in Melbourne, this bespoke is made to order to suit your space’s needs.

Modular Launay Floor Lamp

The Modular Lamp is an exploration of light and form, designed to adapt to ever-changing tastes while promoting sustainable living. With its playful array of Shade Modules, it invites you to experiment and personalise, offering over 20 potential configurations by simply flipping the asymmetrical shades. Crafted from an amalgamation of natural and innovative materials — including Washi paper, hand-stained coffee raffia stitch and Australian timbers — this lamp is an art piece in its own right. Handmade to order, each edition is distinct, with subtle imperfections that add character to the design.

CULTIVER X Colin King sheet set

The Stylist’s Collection, a collaboration between CULTIVER and revered interior stylist Colin King, returns with Edition II. This curated capsule for the top of the bed features the new “Thatch” design — an intricately woven fabric that pools gracefully on the floor, drapes softly over pillows and envelops the bed with refined proportions.

Bankston x Civilian

Bankston Architectural, the esteemed Australian hardware firm, proudly unveils its first U.S. collaboration, Hemispheres, marking a significant milestone in its global design journey. Created in partnership with New York-based design studio CIVILIAN, this collection reimagines traditional hardware through a lens of creativity. The collection’s namesake honours the dome shape central to each piece, symbolising the convergence of two hemispheres — Bankston’s roots in South Australia and CIVILIAN in Brooklyn. Drawing inspiration from industrial art deco aesthetics, Hemispheres merges two distinct landscapes to produce a timeless, adaptable range that suits any environment.

Featuring leather-lined drawers, satin nickel hardware and an extendable marble top, it offers storage for tools and utensils. This distinctive piece marries a fluid, cut-out frame with marble accents, mounted on precision wheels, ensuring mobility for elevated entertaining. Whether commanding attention within the interior or gracing a poolside gathering, the Ultimate Bar Cart epitomises versatility for the discerning host.
