Boyd Blue has built a reputation for traditional craftsmanship, and its latest collaboration with Kate Nixon symbolises a pivotal evolution for its in-house line BOYD. The collection of furniture – that launched in March – draws on Boyd Blue’s expertise and Nixon’s approach to interiors, amalgamating materiality with permanence.

Boyd Blue has collaborated with international design houses for years, but this collection is the first time BOYD has partnered with an external designer. The connection with Nixon was immediate, as both brands are anchored in craftsmanship, material integrity and the idea that good design should stand the test of time.
“We’ve had the privilege of building long-standing relationships with multigenerational family businesses, and I believe it’s this trust and commitment that truly enriches our product range.” notes Shelley Boyd, Founder of Boyd Blue. “These enduring partnerships have been key to our success, allowing us to create collections that reflect not just craftsmanship, but the values of creativity, integrity, and family that we hold dear.”

Kate Nixon has been shaping Australian interiors since 2007, known for her instinctive layering of tone and texture to create homes with depth and warmth. For this collection, she has distilled her design philosophy into pieces that celebrate the raw beauty of natural materials. “The basis of this collection was natural materials and showcasing them in their authentic state,” says Kate Nixon. “Seeing the beautiful grain of the carved oak, the turn of the tea-stained paper cords, the intricate weave of the wicker — these are the details and layers which make a piece special. They tell the story of the materials and the skilled hands which have crafted it, reinvented into something beautiful that lives on with us in our home.”

BOYD is built on a commitment to small-batch production, where each piece is made with a profound respect for artisan skill and sustainable practices. Shelley Boyd founded Boyd Blue in 1999, forming lasting relationships with multigenerational craftspeople who share the brand’s dedication to quality and longevity. “We wanted the collection to have a thread and a familiarity, but also for each piece to stand alone,” notes Nixon. “They capture our combined history and creative journey of inspiration, and design, and the deep connection we share to both the process and the materials we use.”
Designed to adapt and evolve, each piece settles into spaces with a natural ease, growing richer in character over time. Whether as a standalone statement or woven into a broader interior narrative, these are pieces to live with — collecting stories, patina and meaning as the years pass. “I think the beauty of this collection is that it is so transitional. It can transition from one look into another if a client moves or changes their décor. These are pieces that you will have forever,” concludes Boyd.
