The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Nature’s Canvas – Introducing Poliform’s Outdoor Debut

There is a certain kind of refined elegance to everything created at the hands of Poliform. Furniture and cabinetry made with a level of detail and finesse. Now this same exceptional craftsmanship has been applied to a range of outdoor collections, setting new heights for functional beauty.

Poliform is a name synonymous with timeless sophistication. And now the Italian powerhouse steps into the great outdoors with its inaugural outdoor furniture collection. This launch is a seamless extension of the brand’s legacy, bringing the articulated allure of indoor living out into the heart of nature. As a country with a climate made for the outdoors, Poliform’s new ranges are perfectly attuned to the Australian landscape.

As the first foray into outdoor furniture, Poliform harmonises the relationship between people, nature and the spaces they inhabit. With an emphasis on the fluidity of spaces and the intrinsic connection we share with the outdoors, each piece in the collection echoes the brand’s core values – elegance, durability and, of course, impeccable design.

Diverse in its offering, the multitude of collections comes to life at the hands of highly celebrated designers, including Jean-Marie Massaud, Emmanuel Gallina, Marcel Wanders, and Soo Chan. This world-class team of creative has encapsulated Poliform’s vision of outdoor living. Each designer offers a unique interpretation, yet all are united by a commitment to quality and an effortless blend of form and function.

Set Sail with Ketch

A longtime collaborator of Poliform – and a master of the exquisite, minimalist details – Jean-Marie Massaud presents Ketch.

With a strong reference to the nautical world, Massaud’s Ketch collection is distinctive with its sturdy planes of offset timber frames. Capturing the spirit of the sea, the designs core language is reminiscent of a sail stretched taut between masts, with flexible backrests supported by a robust Iroko wood frame.

The timber is an enduring material treated with a special hydro-oil to maintain its beauty over time. The cushions, crafted from outdoor- fabrics, promise comfort and resilience. Small details add a sense of luxe, for instance the stitching detail on top of the backrest cushion. The flat plane of the timber armrests sit perched atop thick, tubular batons – akin to a boat mast.

A canopied version creates a beckoning space of retreat, where the sofa’s legs extend upwards to form a protective micro-architecture, offering a private, intimate space sheltered from the elements. Like the sofas and armchairs, the sunbed features a solid and essential iroko frame that supports the soft cushioning. The reclining backrest, made even more comfortable by the headrest cushion, conceals a functional compartment for storing towels and accessories.

Bringing the same forms in the frame, the coffee table feels equally at home. The top is available in two versions: either slatted timber, or the true masterpiece – a speckled glass obtained with a handmade technique of glass fusion that uses sand to create a texture that is particular both to the eye and to the touch.

Mad Out with the Master of Quick – Marcel Wanders

Famed Dutch designer Marcel Wanders reimagines the iconic lines of his Mad collection for the outdoors. Constructed in a highly technical weaving technique, the sofa and armchair feature hand-braided rope backrests. The encapsulating form wraps around, creating a sculptural object, which transforms a functional element into a striking visual detail. Equally light, with the air and sun filtering through the braids, there is also a sense of solidity to this sofa and armchair. The Mad Out collection is ideal for outdoor environments, complemented with the organic, pebble like coffee table. The table features a lava stone top that can be embellished with liquid-looking glass powder.

Le Club Outdoor Gets Ready to go Out

Another from the master – Massaud. The beloved Le Club armchair steps outside in its new iteration, retaining its signature curved and soft lines. The comfort remains unmatched, but the materials have evolved – now featuring a knitted fabric treated with water-repellent technology, ensuring it withstands the rigours of outdoor life without compromising on elegance.

Letting Nature Shine with Magnolia

As fluid and organic, as the Ketch is striking and strong, the Magnolia Collection epitomises nature’s subtleties. Designed by Emmanuel Gallina, this range features the delicate nuances of nature’s splendour – fluid lines of branches, or the lightness of a falling leaf. This collection, which includes a sofa, armchair and sunbed, highlights the natural lightness of wood, elevated by Poliform’s technical expertise. Invisible backrest technology enhances comfort, while the design seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings.

Making a Stand with Monolith

The Monolith collection – comprised of sturdy tables – is a nod to the timeless, monumental beauty of ancient dolmens, also designed by Emmanuel Gallina. The table’s thin surface, crafted from Cementoskin® or basalt stone, honours the grandeur of its base, while the rounded, curvaceous lines soften its visual impact. Available in various sizes and shapes, Monolith is more than just a table – it is a system designed to connect with the environment, embodying both strength and subtlety.

This new collection is exclusively available in store and online now at Poliform Australia
