The 'Bespoke' Issue

With Guest Editor Yasmine Ghoniem, we are launched headfirst into the world of unique and eclectic design. From architecture to interiors, there is nothing that can’t be enlivened with bespoke interventions. Granted, a stunningly beautiful home can be made by simply shopping for the best, but when the artist’s hand is introduced, some pure magic is possible. Whether it is an artwork or a new upholstery, a built-in component or a mosaic inlay, these gestures, whether bold or subtle, are what make the home unique.

Skargaarden at Jati Outdoor Furniture

Scandinavia’s finest leisure furniture maker, Skargaarden has found a perfect and special Australian home exclusively at Jati Outdoor Furniture.

Despite coming from the opposite ends of the planet, the synergy is sublime. Both have a love affair with and passion for teak. Both believe that working with premium teak is a time-honoured craft. Both believe it is a material well suited to a more sustainable future.

And, both see the pursuit of leisure as an art form to be perfected in its own right. For nearly 30 years Jati have honed their craft and earned a reputation for quality and their bespoke teak pieces. Jati pieces are now equally at home at sophisticated resorts and commercial premises as they are on suburban porches throughout Australia.

Like Jati, Skargaarden’s approach to design and manufacture is unique, philosophical and a little quirky, but always simple, honest and uncomplicated, adding to the charm and attraction of the name.

According to Skargaarden, when it comes to design, ‘everything should go at its own pace. There’s no point working slowly for the sake of it, but there’s every reason in the world not to rush something to fruition.’

Skargaarden believe in furniture made for situation and a feeling, rather than for a specific place. Coming from Scandinavia this makes sense, not only are the pieces designed for outdoor settings, but also conservatories, on verandas, alfresco, dining rooms or drawing rooms. They believe every piece should encourage and stimulate a sense of relaxation, whether it’s with friends or simply a moment to yourself.

These limited pieces will be on view at both Jati showrooms in Melbourne and Sydney from the 10th December, just in time for summer.”
