Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

The Luxury of The Green Room

Every architect and designer knows that designing a room using just the right furniture, objects and accessories makes the ordinary, extraordinary. However, including a rug, pulls a concept together and becomes the crowning glory that completes every design.

With a brand-new showroom at 499 Crown Street in Surry Hills, Sydney, The Green Room is now perfectly placed to display its collections of luxury and designer rugs, cushions and accessories to a discerning clientele.

The Green Room was established by creative duo Olly Adam and Maxine Fielding and their first boutique shop in Sydney was opened in 2019. With more than two decades of experience, working internationally across the arts, interior and affiliated design industries, Adam and Fielding are well-placed to know good design. By creating the new premises for The Green Room, the pair have designed an experiential environment where you can expect the unexpected, surrounded by exemplar products.

The Green Room is the Australian distributor for The Rug Company, established in London in 1997 by Christopher and Suzanne Sharp. The rugs on display will capture the imagination and delight the eye as they are showcased with flair and elegance in this new space.

Caldera | Ink Impressions Collection from the Rug Company

Some of the world’s best designers have collaborated with The Rug Company and include Alexander McQueen, Kelly Wearstler, Dale Chihuly, Paul Smith and Martin Brudnizki. Each collection brings style and substance to the broader group with disparate styles and patterns that feature linear graphics, swirls, block colour, bordered rugs, textured patterns, merged forms and even outdoor rugs.

As The Rug Company prides itself on innovative and original design born from a passion for quality, design and craftsmanship, so too has The Green Room created an environment where rugs can be exhibited to their best advantage. The Green Room is rather like a refined ‘home away from home’ and a place where clients can visualise and select, touch and experience great design.

Glasswings | Metamorphosis Collection from Alexander McQueen

Along with The Rug Company collections, The Green Room also showcases another stellar brand – candles and perfumes from The Perfumer’s Story. With more than 25-years’ experience in the perfumery business, Azzi Glasser created her own company in 2016 and has found great success through her bespoke and unique style, translating themes into scent. As the perfumer to the Hollywood A List she is in demand for creating personal individual scents and character fragrances that help transform actors into their roles. Through artful display in The Green Room, The Perfumer’s Story products will touch the senses and bring its own particular glamour to the space.

Caldera | Ink Impressions Collection from the Rug Company

With a new showroom and beautiful rugs and objects to decorate the interior, the new The Green Room is set to make its mark. There are a multitude of styles and designs on offer and the diversity of the ranges will offer something for everyone.

New collections from The Rug Company include Ink Impressions by The Rug Company’s own inhouse studio and the latest collaboration with the incomparable fashion designer Alexander McQueen. While Ink Impressions is soft and muted with flowing multi-coloured pastels or simply a single colour: Metamorphosis by Alexander McQueen is luxuriously large with a butterfly graphic in either exquisitely soft or bold and singular colours. These are statement rugs, beautiful simply on their own with a single chair or to add gravitas and dress a room with multiple furniture pieces.

Whether it is to find inspiration from the beauty of the surrounds or to arrive to buy a special rug, The Green Room will provide just the place to engage the senses of sight, smell and touch and help to discover that essential ingredient to every design, a rug.
