Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Winnings x Habitus – House of the Year returns in 2024!

House of the Year

Our dynamic annual competition for the best in residential design across the Asia-Pacific region is back. Find out more – and start getting excited!

This year, Habitus House of the Year is set to return bigger and better than ever before. We’re delighted to announce that the 2024 edition will be brought to you with our friends at Winnings as Gold Partner as well as Rogerseller as Silver Partner!

Building on the competition’s renowned history, the programme will again kick off with a very special shortlist of 20 projects. This list – from across Australia, Aotearoa-New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region – will be selected by the editorial team at Habitus, who are across the very best in residential design and the most outstanding designers. This year’s shortlist is set to express a wide variety of home design – not one single style, aesthetic, scale or location, but rather a dynamic range spanning rural retreats, beachside apartments and space-saving urban renovations.

The shortlist will be revealed in September 2024, as we ready ourselves for the People’s Choice Award. That, of course, is where you, reader, come in. You’ll be able to vote on your favourite from the shortlist, providing valuable popular feedback to the leading designers.

In the meantime, we are putting together a very special and esteemed jury for two main awards, again to be selected from the same shortlist. We’re not giving away the details of identities just yet, however. What we can tell you is that there will be eight external jurors, including some big names from across architecture and interior design industry. They will be led by Habitus’ senior editors, Timothy Alouani-Roby (digital) and Gillian Serisier (print).

The judging itself takes place at Winnings’ magnificent Redfern showroom in Sydney, which opened just last year. The design is by Cera Stribley as well as featuring custom joinery designed by Fiona Lynch, while the total floorspace is 2400 square metres. Rogerseller, meanwhile, is a standout of many brands on show there. The Winnings team too will be selecting their very own bespoke award from the shortlist, so it’s certain to be an exciting timeline of competition and winner announcements.

Stay tuned – especially to our Instagram – for a full jury reveal very soon. We can’t wait to show you the full, exciting list of nominated projects! Thank you and welcome to Winnings and Rogerseller!
