Revealing your 2024 Winnings x Habitus House of the Year jury!

House of the Year

The annual competition for the best in residential design across the Asia-Pacific region is back. Here, we announce our exciting jury for 2024!

It was recently announced that the 2024 edition of Habitus House of the Year will be brought to you with our friends at Winnings as Gold Partner and Rogerseller as Silver Partner! The excitement now builds further as we announce the next big milestone in this year’s competition – the jury.

Some of the brightest minds from across the design world recently came together at Winnings’ Redfern showroom in Sydney for an intensive full day of judging, as well as a site visit. We’ll be announcing the full shortlist of 20 projects in September, in time for you to vote for the winner of the People’s Choice Award.

Without further ado, though, here is your 2024 Winnings x Habitus House of the Year jury!

Andy Carson
Atelier Andy Carson

One of the most exciting small architecture studios in Australia, Atelier Andy Carson has fast become synonymous with engaging and exciting architecture and design. Based out of Sydney and the NSW Central Coast, while working across Australia, the studio has established itself as a leader in high-end residential and commercial architecture with an interest in projects ranging from single residential, major renovations to larger commercial, multi-residential and hospitality buildings. They design by working closely with clients, listening to their unique needs and coming up with beautiful design solutions to suite their lifestyle. They design for longevity, with a high level of care in the details because they believe it’s the small things that make the difference, in both in the way you experience architecture and in the service we provide.

Charlotte Wilson
SJB

Charlotte joined SJB with experience spanning high-end residential, hospitality and commercial sectors in both Australia and the UK. Since graduating with an MA in Architecture from London’s Royal College of Art, Charlotte has focused on interior design while maintaining a strong passion for designing with an understanding for both interior and architectural disciplines to achieve holistic, narrative-driven projects.

Charlotte specialises in bespoke design and values the importance of understanding the end user, examining how they will engage and connect with the space. Notable awards include Best in Show, Free Range Exhibition, London (2010) and winner of the award for outstanding academic excellence, Leeds Metropolitan University (2010). As well as leading SJB Sydney’s interiors team alongside Victoria Judge, she also practises as an artist (with a Sydney exhibition earlier in the year).

David Flack
Flack Studio

Having founded his eponymous studio a decade ago, David quickly achieved acclaim for an iconoclastic approach to interiors marked by material, formal and spatial experimentation. A three-time Architectural Digest ‘AD100’ laureate, he grew up in rural Australia, the son of a builder. He credits this background for an approach which, despite its evident glamour, is anchored in honesty, integrity and clarity of vision. All qualities he imbues into a vibrant studio of architects, interior and product designers based in a former electroplating workshop in Melbourne’s inner-city Fitzroy district.

Genevieve Hromas
OKO OLO

Genevieve is one part of OKO OLO, a Sydney-based multi-disciplinary creative partnership formed with her long-time friend Juliet Ramsey. She formed her first interiors studio while studying, working on boutique commercial projects from optometrists to ad agencies. After a stint in London she returned to Sydney and worked with Nic Graham on the QT Hotel in the old Gowings Building. This was followed by nine years at Arent&Pyke, becoming Design Director in her final years.

Gillian Serisier
Habitus and Indesign

Gillian Serisier is the editor of both Habitus and Indesign print publications, where she covers all corners of architecture, design and art. Working with guest editors across architecture, interior designer and product designer, Gillian is focusing a varied gaze on the design world. Moreover, Gillian’s extensive knowledge and sharp words make for compelling storytelling.

Greg Natale
Greg Natale Design

The multi-award-winning Australian designer is known for his masterly use of pattern and colour in interior design. His bold application of both is used to create tailored, curated and sophisticated spaces – the practice’s signature features, together with an intricate approach to layering that speaks of luxe liveability. These have contributed to making Greg Natale Design one of Australia’s top design firms and Greg himself one of its most sought-after talents.

Since its launch in 2001, Greg Natale Design has brought its expertise in architecture and interior design to the creation of stunning, sophisticated and unforgettable spaces. Greg continues to expand his business and currently has his own line of products available in Bergdorf Goodman in the US plus European and Asian stockists, and his flagship store in Sydney. Greg has released three books on interior design and is the recipient of many prestigious awards internationally. He has been named one of The World’s Most Influential Designers by AD Mexico and a Design Visionary by Harper’s Bazaar Interiors Middle East.

Jet Geaghan
Woods Bagot

An architect and Woods Bagot associate, Jet is passionate about the transformative potential of design and the craft of realising clear conceptual narratives in elegant, detailed and nuanced forms. Curious about experimental approaches to materiality, function and process, Jet champions modern construction methods for more efficient and affordable planning regimes. He advocates for the uptake of emergent technologies in architectural practice, where processes and tools enhance design efficiency and wellbeing.

Polly Harbison
Polly Harbison Design

Polly Harbison is the principal of Polly Harbison Design. Established in 2003, the studio is a Sydney-based practice committed to creating elegantly resolved architecture. Her projects have received extensive recognition in awards programmes and have been well published both internationally and locally, with the Pearl Beach Project winning the Australian Institute of Architects National Award and NSW Wilkinson Award 2021. Polly specialises in designing houses on beautiful coastal sites. Her studio currently has projects in Margaret River Western Australia, Kangaroo Island South Australia as well as several beachfront sites along the NSW coastline.

Polly studied architecture at the University of Sydney. Alongside her practice, she has been on several juries including chairing the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Award for New Residential Houses 2022. She has been involved in architectural education in Sydney, tutoring at both the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales.

Sarah-Jane Pyke
Arent&Pyke

Sarah-Jane understands the necessity for interiors to be authentically mindful of place and those who inhabit them. Her concepts are clever, not tricky, and her meticulous approach to carving space is underpinned by a sensual elegance that enhances volume and natural light. Sarah-Jane’s design outcomes are beautifully sumptuous given their focus upon tactile elements. Possessing an eye for unexpected pairings – most notably manifesting in engaging curations of artworks with prized objects and furnishings – her work translates into equal parts fresh, visceral and functional, above all else sparking enquiry and eliciting delight.

Timothy Alouani-Roby
Habitus Living and Indesignlive

Timothy Alouani-Roby is the Editor of Indesignlive and Habitus Living. Having worked in elite professional sport for over a decade, he retrained in architecture at the University of Sydney, adding to previous degrees in philosophy, politics and English literature. Timothy is based in Gadigal-Sydney, but spends much of his time among the moors of both Northern England and Marrakech.

Building on the competition’s renowned history, the 2024 Winnings x Habitus House of the Year programme will again kick off with a very special shortlist of 20 projects. Selected by the editorial team at Habitus, who are across the very best in residential design and the most outstanding designers, the shortlist will be revealed in stages during September – so make sure you keep an eye out, especially on Instagram!
