Who Are The Leading Australian Interior Designers?

There’s an amazing array of local talent coming out of the Asia Pacific. For the sake of clarity, below are some of the biggest names in the Australian Interior Designers game at the moment that you should be keeping an eye on.

Finding the right interior designer for your project can be hard. Whether you’ve been picturing your dream house for years or have no idea about how to design a new space, finding the right person to curate your project can make all the difference. There are countless factors to consider when finalising an interior designer; do they understand your vision for the space? How much do they charge? What are their credentials? Are they easily contactable and open to adapting to your schedule? Not only that, finding the right interior designer in Sydney, for example, can be a real nightmare. So we’ve made it easier for you! Below are some of the top Australian interior designers to keep tabs on.

Smart Design Studio (NSW)

Smart Design Studio, located in Bourke Street Surry Hills has a team of over forty-five design specialists. With numerous Interior Design awards such as the 2012 Dulux Colour Award, 2015 Australian Interior Design Award, 2017 Belle Coco Republic Award for Best Residential Interior and 2017 The Building Award; Best of the Best Award; and Luminary Award (William Smart), Smart Design Studio is an interior design firm in Sydney to watch not only for their long list of credentials but their intelligent and sentimental design. Smart Design notes; “we find that applying layers of significance, embedding hidden meaning, and building up surface texture adds poetry to the finished design, be that of a multi-storey building or the interior of a private home.”

Flack Studio (VIC)

At times discovered through Instagram, with an impressive 60k+ following, and by word of mouth, David Flack is a highly sought-after interior designer in Melbourne. With his playful and textural designs, David believes in the process of “Flackifying”. What is Flackifying you ask? It is the idea of transforming ideas and dreams into experiences. By listening to the gut, enjoying a sense of playfulness and working with the client – not under them nor over them – David creates his own magical and very recognizable style. “Every project looks different because of architecture but ultimately I want people turning the page of a magazine and saying that’s a Flack Studio design – we have a very strong language and look.” – David Flack.
