Vintage Modern Issue

The breadth and scope of Habitus has always been extraordinary. With how we live at heart of every issue, we have stepped it up with Guest Editor David Flack of Flack Studio shaking the ‘how’ and looking at new ways to make a house a home. With Vintage Modern as the issues theme, we look at the way iconic design has stayed with us, how daring pieces from the past can add the wow factor and how architecture and good design defy the pigeon hole of their era.

Braid Sofa

By Apato

The repetitive sticks of the back and the paper cord braided arms of the the Braid sofa are inspired by patterns found in classic bamboo constructions and tatami mats. The deep and low sofas are created for a lounge environment and the beautiful rear structure ensure that they are perfect even when placed in the middle of a space. The warm hues and natural nuances found in traditional Japanese architecture are mimicked in a well-balanced mix of wood, textile and paper cord in different tones and nuances. Manufactured in the furniture producing town of Morodomi, ARIAKE is a new, exciting Japanese brand that has brought together designers from different countries with a common respect for Japanese culture and woodworking. The expansive collection is available in a variety of options, and includes unique finishes such as sumi and indigo dye.
