Danish furniture brand GUBI explores the ‘liminal space’ between indoors and out with its new, all-encompassing, and contextual take on outdoor design. Dubbed ‘Al Fresco’, this new collection aims to bring the feel of the indoors outside, adding archival and contemporary designers, new releases as well as introducing weatherproof outdoor versions of their well-known indoor designs.
As GUBI’s first-ever collection for the outdoors, it’s all about bringing iconic designs to life in these threshold spaces. Available to order now and landing in Cult showrooms in Australia in winter 2022, the Al Fresco collection consists of eight outdoor furniture and lighting ranges.
Among the new releases in the collection, the Obello Portable Lamp is one of the most memorable. With a frosted, mouth-blown glass shade, and integrated dimmable-LED light source, the rechargeable lamp can easily be moved between inside and out. Its warm glow creates a cozy atmosphere, while its space-age design makes for a striking centrepiece within any outdoor space.
Comprising a Lounge Chair, Sofa, Ottoman and floor lamp, the Bohemia 72 Collection brings together Gabriella Crespi’s interest in natural materials, and her fascination with stacked sculptural forms. All crafted from rattan, the collection seamlessly unites indoor and outdoor living, and celebrates the natural flow of light and air.
Bringing back the material simplicity and decadent aesthetic of Hungarian-born French master, Mathieu Matégot, the Tropique Collection, which consists of two dining chairs and dining table, captures the timeless glamour and exotic luxury of outdoor living.
Adding to the selection of new releases, the Atmosfera Coffee and Dining Table offer a classic look, without being too formal. Referencing architectural and maritime design and made from premium teak, the tables’ simple aesthetics maintain an understated poise while the unusual leg design provides both structural support and visual interest.
In addition to the new releases, GUBI’s Al Fresco includes new outdoor versions of indoor best sellers. For example, the Pacha Outdoor range sees Pierre Paulin’s pioneering seating concept move to the outdoors. The sculptural softness and organic shapes of the Pacha Outdoor Chair, Sofa and Ottoman provide comfort and coziness with a progressive yet functional design that brings life to any setting.
GUBI optimises Marcel Gascoin-designed pieces, namely the F-Chair Lounge and C-Chair, for the outdoors in both ergonomics and materiality. These new outdoor versions combine finely-tuned proportions that maximise comfort with the use of an all-weather fiber to create seating that is ideal for exterior applications.
The TS Collection is already well known and appreciated among design lovers for its ability to suit any interior and setting. Now, the black-based TS Side Table and Coffee Table are getting the outdoor treatment with beautifully veined white travertine tabletops and a powder-coated stainless steel base.
The plastic editions of GUBI’s most popular dining chairs, Beetle and the Bat, have also been reimagined for outdoor use. The Beetle and Bat Dining Chairs’ elegant single-curved outer shells now benefit from the addition of UV additive to the polypropylene formula from which they are injection molded, which strengthen and protect against the exposure to UV radiation.
