Scheduled for April 4 at 7pm the auction comprises of 163 lots and has an estimated range of 1.6 – 2.2 million dollars.
Of particular interest are early drawings by colonial artist Tommy McRae, including Buckley’s Escape, a detailed and informative piece illustrating key episodes from the legend of William Buckley.
Also noteworthy is Old Man’s Corroboree Story, a very early Papunya board by Johnny Warangkula; Soakage Bore, by Emily Kame Kngwarreye; Paddy Cooley (Quilty) Story / Emu Dreaming and Thoowoonggoonarrin by Paddy Bedford and Rockholes and Country near the Olgas (both the 2006 and 2007 versions) by Bill Whiskey Tjapaltjarri.
The auction includes paintings, sculptures and bark paintings together with a selection of contemporary urban indigenous artists with key works from Gordon Bennett, Richard Bell, Gordon Hookey and Shane Pickett. Many items are rare and have not been offered at auction before, making this an unimssable opportunity for collectors and aficionados.
